Tuesday Tunes {Chet Faker}

This song was only released last week. I didn’t like it initially but it’s growing on me. I think it’s the strong sax and electric key combo that do it for me!

So who is Chet Faker {aka Nick Murphy}? He’s a super talented Melbourne musician/producer perfectionist. Best known for his vocals on the Flume track ‘Drop The Game’. Nick actually recorded an album, deleted it, re-wrote and re-recorded another album, deleted it again and thinks the 3rd time he got lucky.

Tuesday Tunes {Bliss n Eso}

I feel like I don’t really need to introduce this Aussie hip hop band … most of you know Bliss n Eso, right? Ha! Ha!

The trio meet in high school – through a love of hip hop music – and have been mates ever since. {The original band name was ‘Bliss N Esoterikizm’ …. but no one could pronounce it!}.

Fast forward 13 years and the band has released the album Circus In The Sky …. and you just have to hear about how Daniel Merriweather ended up on the album singing ‘Can’t Get Rid Of This Feeling’.

From the news.com.au website:
“The Melbourne singer was on his way home in a taxi after a big night out when Bliss called him out of the blue to ask if he would sing on Can’t Get Rid Of This Feeling.

“We had just put down the song really roughly and thought Daniel’s voice would suit it so I called him up. It was about 9am, and he was in a cab on the way home from the night before,” Bliss says, laughing.

“When I told him we had a track we wanted to play him, he redirected the cab to come to the studio, went straight into the vocal booth and sang it.”

That’s love. Or maybe that’s just Daniel not wanting his big night to end!

Tuesday Tunes {John Legend}

John Legend has a way of tugging at your heart strings. Once he tugs, the flood gates open, tears want to fall and you instantly need a hug from someone. Anyone!

Legend’s latest song ‘All of me’ tugs. Like seriously tugs. I can’t decide if its the lyrics, the piano or the fact he wrote the song about his love for his fiancee. The lyrics are stunning, the melody beautiful and his voice is velvet.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t remember the last song John Legend released. Maybe he’s been MIA? Anywoo, he’s back, he’s still good look and still an amazing talent.

Tuesday Tunes {Haim}

The Haim sisters are one to watch. Their album, Days Are Gone, debut at number two on the ARIA charts in it’s first week.

The sisters, Este, Danielle and Alana Haim {rhymes with time} hail from Los Angeles. The sisters had always dabbled in music solely until the The Strokes invited the sisters to open for them in LA.

Success followed immediately until the The Strokes front man Julian Casablancas suggested the girls stop playing and start writing their own songs.

A year later and success arrived again. The gals had new material, a new sound and studio time was a natural progression. Days are Gone is a mix of hip-hop, retro, 80’s pop and soulful blues. Very eclectic but it works.

Tuesday Tunes {The Paper Kites}

I love the story of how The Paper Kites were formed. Just some school friends, writing music and occasionally playing music together in Melbourne. Some songs were released on the internet and a fan base started to build. Within months the indie band were accepted to play in a music festival (2010) and a natural progression into full time music followed.

The Paper Kites released their 3rd LP, States, a few months ago. I don’t mind the new tunes Young and St Clarity. But it’s there original song Bloom from the 2010 LP Beginnings that I love. It’s the sweetest little melody.

Tuesday tunes {Avicii}

Avicii

“So wake me up when it’s all over
When I’m wiser and I’m older”

Sound familiar? If you own a TV then you’ve been hearing this song each day for the past 3 weeks. Every time channel TEN advertise their new TV series ‘Wonderland’, this song is playing.

AND It’s so damn catchy. I love it.

Is anyone else excited to watch ‘Wonderland’ tomorrow night? It looks like a cross between ‘Secret Life of Us’ and ‘Offspring’.
