Tuesday Tunes {Duke Dumont}

I heard this song, ‘I Got U’ about a month ago and couldn’t download it. iTunes kept telling me it was an ALBUM ONLY song and I kept screaming ‘That’s horse shit! Gimme the song’.

I even considered downloading the song illegally. Oh yeah, I can be naughty sometimes. I’ve totally forged signatures before.

The song God’s must have heard my screams because the song just got released.

Another Canberra creation! Check out the lads from Peking Duk and their latest single ‘High‘ featuring Nicole Millar.

Peking Duk do a bit of the festival circuit and also loads of Aussie nightclub guest DJing appearances. The song ‘High’ is high energy with a twist of house.

Tuesday Tunes {SAFIA}

Geez, I’m really sharing a lot of chilled indie at the moment, aren’t I? Let me add one more to the mix and I promise to share something upbeat next week!

The lads from SAFIA hale from the nation’s capital, Canberra. A three-piece electro-indie band that’s been playing music together since primary school. {Nawww ….. how cute}.

The band recently supported Disclosure, Rudimental and RUFUS on an Australian tour, so they are already hitting the big time without even releasing an album yet!

Tuesday Tunes {Chet Faker}

This song was only released last week. I didn’t like it initially but it’s growing on me. I think it’s the strong sax and electric key combo that do it for me!

So who is Chet Faker {aka Nick Murphy}? He’s a super talented Melbourne musician/producer perfectionist. Best known for his vocals on the Flume track ‘Drop The Game’. Nick actually recorded an album, deleted it, re-wrote and re-recorded another album, deleted it again and thinks the 3rd time he got lucky.

Tuesday Tunes {James Vincent McMorrow}

I’m not sure where to begin with this song. I actually can’t remember where or when I heard it. Maybe a few months ago?

Picture this. I’m doing my housework, the TV is on and RAGE is providing me with some tunes. ‘Cavalier‘ comes on and I’m so engrossed in the video clip that I rewind it and play it again. It blew me away.

I grabbed my phone and found out I have already have the song downloaded.

James Vincent McMorrow is regarded as a folk singer…. but really he’s a modern version of a folk singer. The song ‘Cavalier‘ is emotional, incredibly compelling, quiet and demands your absolute attention. Its also intense yet subtle.

James-Vincent-McMorrow-Cavalier

The song is captivating – it romantically sweeps you up and carries you along tenderly until you realise it’s a song about heartbreak. JVM’s voice breaks at the end and delivers pure emotion. Watch out for the goosebumps!

I can’t even talk about the video clip – it’s hard to watch – strippers & drug taking – but it’s beautifully shot.

Let me know what you think about the song?  Maybe I’m a big old softie that should stick to indie rock.

Tuesday Tunes {Bliss n Eso}

I feel like I don’t really need to introduce this Aussie hip hop band … most of you know Bliss n Eso, right? Ha! Ha!

The trio meet in high school – through a love of hip hop music – and have been mates ever since. {The original band name was ‘Bliss N Esoterikizm’ …. but no one could pronounce it!}.

Fast forward 13 years and the band has released the album Circus In The Sky …. and you just have to hear about how Daniel Merriweather ended up on the album singing ‘Can’t Get Rid Of This Feeling’.

From the news.com.au website:
“The Melbourne singer was on his way home in a taxi after a big night out when Bliss called him out of the blue to ask if he would sing on Can’t Get Rid Of This Feeling.

“We had just put down the song really roughly and thought Daniel’s voice would suit it so I called him up. It was about 9am, and he was in a cab on the way home from the night before,” Bliss says, laughing.

“When I told him we had a track we wanted to play him, he redirected the cab to come to the studio, went straight into the vocal booth and sang it.”

That’s love. Or maybe that’s just Daniel not wanting his big night to end!

Tuesday Tunes {Goldroom}

My girlfriend Lyss and my hubby simultaneously introduced me to this song last week. Coincidence? No way. They both have the best taste in music.

Introducing LA producer Josh Legg AKA Goldroom. The song ‘Embrace‘ is not a ballad ….. but it’s not a pop song either. It lies somewhere in the middle.
